Tools to shape a productive lab culture

People perform at their best when they feel supported, understood and valued by their managers and colleagues. Cracking the whip might generate a temporary spike in productivity, but in the long run it can lead to disengagement, reduced performance and - perhaps most harmfully - high levels of attrition. A healthy team culture is therefore vital to nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent.

To cultivate a positive team culture, STEM leaders need to step back from the research process to think about the human dimension of their work. This includes considering the different needs and working styles of their colleagues, adapting their approach to collaborate as efficiently as possible, and fostering a supportive, growth-oriented culture that encourages personal development and empowers individuals within the team.

This training programme, developed specifically for STEM leaders and managers, focuses on three areas that are vital to building a supportive team culture: psychological safety, neurodiversity and wellbeing. Research-backed and led by an expert facilitator, this practical and interactive session will equip participants with a range of tools and techniques they can implement immediately to help build a healthier, more positive culture in their team.
